Inspired from the personal experience of a patient living with EMPD, myEMPD began more than a decade ago in response to a severe lack of awareness and trustworthy information. For many years, the site was created, maintained, and funded entirely by Stephen Schroeder so patients and families could access clear, reliable resources and know they were not alone. Over time, others affected by EMPD stepped forward to volunteer, share their stories, and offer financial support, transforming a single patient’s effort into a shared commitment sustained by a small but deeply dedicated community.

Every contribution directly supports EMPD awareness and education. Donations help cover website hosting, email services, outreach, and the ongoing development of educational content, keeping this site accessible and current for anyone searching for answers.

Transparency and donation information

Donations are processed securely through Stripe. The full donation amount goes to myEMPD, minus standard credit card processing fees, typically around 2.9% plus 30¢ per donation.

This awareness initiative is entirely volunteer-run and is not currently registered as a nonprofit organization, so donations are not tax-deductible at this time. Transparency is a priority, and any future changes to this status will be clearly communicated.
